The American Romanian Festival Film Series is celebrated with a curated films screenings and lectures that explore culture through rich cinematic experiences. The 2015 American Romanian Festival marks the Festival’s 10 Year Anniversary and 6th Annual Romanian Film Series. Help celebrate the occasion by joining us at Schoolcraft College, October 24, 2015, for the finale film screening. Admission tickets may be reserved at the door/screening.

Cea mai fericita fata din lume, 2009, Radu Jude, Comedy, English Subtitles, 99 min
Delia, a young Romanian girl, comes to Bucharest with her parents to collect a prize she has won in a contest organized by a soft-drinks company. The prize is a beautiful new car. All Delia has to do now is appear in front of the camera in a commercial. All goes well until it becomes clear that Delia and her parents have very different ideas about what to do with the new car. Meanwhile, the contest’s sponsor needs a radiant prize-winner with a gleaming smile. A wicked satire and a psychological portrait of a society perverted by its slavery to capitalism and consumerism.

Searching for a better life, Francesca is ready to overcome any obstacles, even the worries and the doubtfulness of the people closest to her. The plan is that her boyfriend, Mita, should join her in Italy as soon as he closes the small business he runs. Things take an unfortunate turn, painful truths come to light and priorities change.
